Silver Storm Rakes Rebels The Raveneau Family Book 1 edition by Cynthia Wright Romance eBooks
I originally read Silver Storm in the early 1980's and at that time I recognized this author as being one of the best romance authors around. Back then Silver Storm was a mass market paperback, and I was blown away by the chemistry between the hot and devilish Captain Andre Raveneau and sweet and innocent Devon Lindsay. The trend of romance authors during that period was bodice-ripping. The men were portrayed as rougher and often more harsh and stern. The bodice ripping days are behind us in romance novels, and I was eager to re-read this book and compare a popular story from the early 80's to romance novels in the present day. I had forgotten much of the story, and as I was reading along I came to the scene where Devon's dress was ripped down to her waist by the marauding British soldier. I thought to myself, "Here it comes." I expected the hero would be a bodice-ripper as well.
But no, Andre is the kind of hero that makes women swoon, even by today's standards. He is drop-dead handsome, quick-thinking, and brave. The plot sets up the situation where there is a lot of arguing between Andre and Devon, for good reasons. She finds him very frustrating and she often believes the worst of him. But she is wrong, he is not a beast, and as the story goes along she learns his is also heroic, kind-hearted, and protective. As I was reading I found their arguing to be so amusing. Both characters are likable and both have good reasons for their position in the disagreements.
Oh yes, the sparks do fly, and I was swept up in the tale. I couldn't put this book down and I read it entirely in one day, even though I had to stay up way past my bedtime to finish it. It was that good! I ate the story up like I was gobbling down bonbons. It didn't dull the story in the least that I had read this before. It was even better this time around, for I now have the years of experience of reading many historical romances and I know a good one when I come across it.
I am putting this author is on my short list of the best romance authors. What fun I am going to have reading each and every one of Cynthia Wright's books!

Silver Storm Rakes Rebels The Raveneau Family Book 1 edition by Cynthia Wright Romance eBooks Reviews
I received this book free from one of the book sites. I do not remember which one! This is my honest review.
I absolutely loved this book. As I have an afinity with the sea, it was perfect for me. There is action, adventure, and love. The characters are memorable and well developed. The dialogue is believable. Andre & Devon will keep you on your toes. Their relationship grows over time, although their intimate relationship bursts into flames. I would consider the intimacy to have a moderate rating.
Silver Storm is definitely worth reading!
I had a hard time putting this book down. I really ike the way it is written. There is so much adventure in it. The author doesn't waste your time with lots of insignificant details like some other books I've read. There is just enough detail, written in an understandable way, to paint a clear picture in your mind. You find yourself longing to know what comes next. It was full of surprises. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romances along with adventure.
Silver Storm is the first book in the Rakes & Rebels series that I read. Although it reads well as a stand-alone book I feel Cynthia Wright's ability to lure one into wanting more and more of the delightful and titillating stories of The Raveneau and Beauvisage families. Her talent of weaving a fictional romance with history of the time makes the story come alive and seem so much more. In reading her series you will find intertwining characters that you remember from a previous book that will keep entertaining you to the end.
The story of Devon and Andre Raveneau is a special love story that begins a true family dynasty rich in exceptional story telling of romance, history and swashbuckling adventure. Page after page will keep the lights on long past your bedtime and sorry when you turn the last page.
Silver Storm blew me out of the water! This was my first take at a historical romance and a first of Cynthia Wright’s work I’ve read. I am amazed at how quickly I fell in love with this book and could not bring myself to put it down. Overall, I loved this book. The story itself felt like it moved at the perfect pace, neither too fast nor too slow. It was full of action and complex characters that will consume your attention from page 1. Silver Storm is a beautiful story of a young, shelter girl named Devon Lindsay who ends up aboard the Black Eagle after war rips her town apart. On her own in the world for the first time, Devon finds comfort in Captain André Raveneau’s arms. Filled with many obstacles to keep the readers entertained this story is very well thought out. I particularly loved the main characters of this book. Raveneau is a strong captain and yet we see a softer side to him at times. I liked Devon even though she can drive you crazy with her impulsive actions and childish behavior. It was nice to see how much these two had changed by the end of the book. Wright has a way with words and plots since even I was surprised at more than one twist in this book. I just have to say I really did enjoy how it seem this story had an extended ending because where most would just conclude it with their HEA, Wright gave readers a little sneak into their story after the HEA. I think if I had any complaints about this book it would be that the passion between these two wasn't as strong as I am used to reading in other stories. So for anyone who is looking to try a good historical romance with a captain then Silver Storm is the book for you.
